A Journey of Cross- overs and Overcoming Odds
1959
The First Step of 1959

It was the summer of 1959, more precisely, it was the 5th of May, 1959; with the scorching heat of summer not denting their enthusiasm, twenty-two eager young students trouped into the new Indian School Kuwait. The vision of nine dynamic Indian pioneers, the first Indian school in Kuwait began operations out of a small building in the suburb of Nugra, with furniture from benevolent donors and the voluntary services of a headmistress. The school started out with a couple of thousand Rupees (back then it was Rupees not Dinars) in hand and an overarching belief by the founders that the school should serve as a center of learning and a bastion for the Indian community in Kuwait. It is quite remarkable that in over five decades of its existence, the school has managed to remain true to the founders’ original vision of providing unparalleled service to the Indian community and offering students an all-encompassing, holistic and innovative educational experience.

Students

The Indian School Kuwait, inaugurated by the then Minister of Education, was among the first foreign educational institution to be established in the State of Kuwait — the commemorative golden key to the school is still proudly displayed at the Kuwait Museum. What started out from a small building in Nugra has grown to become four large campuses — three in Salmiya and one in Khaitan — with a collective strength of 8000 students and a teaching and support staff of 650. Admission is open exclusively to Indian students, a distinctive feature of this Indian School. Each year the school is overwhelmed by an influx of students seeking admission. Another element that epitomizes the school’s record of excellence is the tens of thousands of alumni who have passed through its portals and whose successful achievements attest to the school’s fifty years of distinctive existence.

2001
changed its name to The Indian Community School Kuwait (ICSK)

The school, which started out as Indian School Kuwait (ISK), changed its name to Indian Community School Kuwait (ICSK), after invasion, in 2001, to better reflect its origins as an Indian community endeavour. Today, this spirit of community service continues through the tireless and unstinting efforts of the school’s Board of Trustees, who in their fiduciary capacity manage the school and ensure it continues to impart excellence in all aspects of education. In addition to the relentless efforts and dynamic leadership of management and the generous support of well-wishers and community members, the school owes much to the untiring and selfless dedication of the staff.
